Adaptive Sports Community

The Adaptive Sports community is a group of people that participate in adaptive sports. Common examples are:

  • Wheelchair basketball

  • Sled Hockey

  • Track/Road Racing

  • Handcycling

  • Skiing

  • Softball

Cerebral Palsy (CP)

According to the CDC, cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture.

 

Inclusive Play

Inclusive Play is the acceptance of people with all abilities through universal accessibility principles that increase activites and infrastructure.

 
 
 
 

Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities

According to the CDC, “Developmental disabilities are a group of conditions due to an impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas. About one in six children in the U.S. have one or more developmental disabilities or other developmental delays.”

Paralympics

The Paralympics are a series of international competitions that occurs every four years and covers a wide variety of adaptive sports.

Methodology of encouraging positive behaviors by by focusing on person-centered motivation tactics.

 

Supportive Employment

Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)

A spinal cord injury occurs when causing incomplete or complete paralysis. Paralysis will be impacted by the location, with usually higher damage leading to an increased amount of reduced movement.

The SCI community consists of a group of people with varying injury levels. During the injury, damage is done to the spinal column, and paralysis may occur.

There are many through chapters of the United Spinal Association.
